The SeNTRE study has the objective to prepare a strategic research plan for European security by establishing and consulting a nehrk of users and technology experts at national and European levels in support of and to link with the future EC Advisory Board on Security.

Pelformed by a number of European organisations with relevant expertise in these domains, the study provides the EU with a comprehensive input for planning the programmes for security research. It brings together a network of users from Member States and European organisations this approach makes a major contribution to the security of the citien in Europe. Politically, it develops support for the action and builds visibility. Technically, it helps achieve wider commonality of he best possible security systems in Europe. Organisationally, it paves the way for an improved exchange between national and European levels through a network of security and technial experts.

    The results are:
    - a strategic research plan containing a list of prioritised short, medium and long term actions,
    - a database of missions and technologies,
    - an organised platform of users and technology experts for future consultation, and
    - a methodology to organise and analyse the security needs at the operational level..

ISCAPS

Dans le cadre des activités de recherche de sécurité lancées par la commission européenne en 2004, la FRS est partie prenante au projet ISCAPS dont les objectifs sont décrits ci-dessous :

    SagemFR
    Bae SystemsFR

Societe Nationale des Chemins De Fer FrancaisFR
The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific ResearchNL
    University of ReadingFR

The main goal of ISCAPS is to reinforce security for the European citizen and to downsize the terrorist threat by reducing the risks of malicious events. This will be undertaken by providing efficient, real-time, user-friendly, highly automated surveillance of crowded areas which are significantly exposed to terrorist attacks.

Through a two year approach, the objectives of the Project are to promote technological surveillance research guided by a system approach in order to bring the research to maturity and to validate it in existing sites.

ISCAPS activities breakdown into research on threatening scenarios and operational requirements, research on key technologies (sensors, information processing and threat detection, communications, system configuration and security), open system architectures, component integration, validation and demonstration. ISCAPS will employ a combination of sensors - visible camera, IR camera, biometrics, tags - in order to increase the quality of identification and tracking of persons, goods and vehicles.
